Placencia is one of the largest natural protected harbours in the Caribbean and a great launching point for boaters.

The property has access to power, is relatively flat and is mostly savannah with pines near the road.   A short walk north brings you to a small creek which is a tributary of Big Creek. Another 500 metres north of that is Big Creek which is surrounded by beautiful Jungle and home to countless species of wildlife such as  gibnut, pecary, foxes, quash, cats and endless bird species.  Big Creek is large enough for a nice swim to cool off on a hot tropical day.

Independence is also home to Malacate Beach which is the mainland facility for Norwegian cruise lines which has been operating its Belize stop at Harvest Caye, a short boat ride southeast.
