Welcome to Belmopan, one of the smallest and friendliest capital cities on the planet. This planned community was created in the 1960’s after Hurricane Hattie had destroyed much of Belize city including the archives building with countless government files and records. Because Belize city is at or just below sea level it did not fare well during storms and had a tendency to flood. The answer was to relocate the government to higher ground in Cayo along the Belize river at the Hummingbird junction. Today, with a population of approximately 18,000, this charming town is growing as government workers seek affordable housing and enjoy living at the centre of Belize with easy access to San Igancio and Belize city both less than an hour away. To the east and south, Belmopan is the gateway to the Maya Mountains and the southern Coast. Dangriga is an hour drive and one of the most scenic drives through the lush mountain jungle littered with countless orchards and quaint little villages where life has remained relatively unchanged for generations.
As you drive east from Belmopan, two road front parcels sit on the edge of town. Like any vibrant city growth has taken houses further and truther out and now property that was once considered jungle is now acreage for new homes that enjoy peace and quiet while being a 2 minute drive from town.
Utilities are available as well as the potential for a home with sweeping views on this elevated region.
cre parcel is located on the highway as you enter Belmopan from coast. An access road also runs the length of the property on the west border.
